ClutchClip vs Opus Clip: offline desktop app or cloud subscription?
Both turn long recordings into short captioned clips. One does it on your machine; the other does it on someone else's.
The short version
- ClutchClip runs entirely on your own machine, so your recording is never uploaded to anyone's servers.
- Opus Clip is a cloud service: every file you clip is uploaded and processed remotely, then metered.
- Opus Clip lists $15/mo (Starter) and $29/mo (Pro) as of 26 August 2026; ClutchClip is $2.50/week, $65/year or $200 once.
- Opus Clip is the better pick if you want browser-only access from any device with no install.

What the two products actually are
Opus Clip is a web service. You sign in, upload a recording, and its servers do the work: find the moments, cut them, caption them, reframe them, and hand back vertical clips. ClutchClip is a desktop application. You install it on Windows or macOS, drop a file in, and the same four jobs happen on your own processor.
That single architectural difference is where every other difference on this page comes from: price, privacy, speed, and what happens when the internet is down.

| Best-value plan | $65 / year | $29 / month ($348 / yr) |

Where Opus Clip wins
If you clip from a Chromebook, a borrowed machine or a phone, a browser tool is simply more convenient: there is nothing to install and nothing to update. If you want a second opinion on which 30 seconds of a two-hour stream will perform, a cloud virality score is a real feature.
If you never want to install anything, buy the cloud tool. If you never want to upload anything, buy the desktop one.
Where ClutchClip wins
Unreleased footage, client work and anything under NDA does not want a round trip through a third party. Neither does a four-hour VOD on a slow upstream connection. And over a year, the arithmetic is not close: $65 against $348.
Frequently asked
Does ClutchClip upload my video like Opus Clip does?
No. ClutchClip transcribes, cuts, captions and reframes on your own hardware. There is no upload step, which is also why it keeps working with no internet connection.
Is Opus Clip better at finding viral moments?
Opus Clip leans on a cloud model and a virality score; ClutchClip ranks moments on-device and lets you search your own transcript to override it. Which one you prefer depends on whether you want a machine's opinion or your own.
What happens to a ClutchClip lifetime license if the company stops shipping updates?
Clipping stays local and offline. Weekly and annual access is signed through the paid period plus a short grace window; lifetime does not normally expire.
How we compare and test
Everything we say about ClutchClip is checked against the shipping build on Windows and macOS. If it is on this site, it works in the app. Competitor facts come from the vendor's own public pricing and feature pages, are quoted with the date we checked them, and are re-checked before each update to this page. We do not run affiliate links, and we say plainly where a competitor is the better fit. Spot something stale?Tell usand we will fix it and re-date the page.
